Frequently Asked Questions

What do you cover in a lactation consult?

The short answer is anything you want! We usually look at weight gain and growth, latch, address any discomfort or pain, assess oral function and discuss milk production. We can look at bottle feeding, work on pumping or weaning - it’s up to you!

Consults are driven by you and your needs and can help with many issues including but not limited to weight gain, trouble latching, positioning, engorgement, blocked ducts/mastitis, TOTS (tethered oral tissues), milk supply, sore nipples, pumping questions, flange fitting, feeding efficiency, supplementing, weaning and more!

How long of a consult should I book?

Most first visits need a 60 minute consult. If things are going well and you just have a few questions, a 30 minute initial visit can work well.

Where do consults take place?

Our in person consults take place at our office at 1572 Carling Ave, right off the Queensway near Westboro. There is parking right out front. We can also meet you virtually, on the phone or even through our messaging portal.

Do you take insurance/is it covered by OHIP?

We do have OHIP subsidized consults available (consults are $77 plus HST and require a referral). To book an OHIP subsidized consult, please go here.

Many insurance companies do cover lactation and you will receive a receipt that you can submit for reimbursement.

What’s the difference between OHIP subsidized and private pay consults?

Take a look at the info here and feel free to email britt@milkface.com with any questions.

What should I bring?

Bring any breastfeeding aids you my be using or have questions about (i.e. Pump flanges for sizing, nipple shields, pillows, etc...). Please feel free to bring a support person - two sets of ears are often better than one!

If your baby needs supplementation with pumped milk or formula please bring some to the consultation.

Where should I park?

Free parking is available directly in front of our office.
